My name is Rod Fitzhugh and I’ve been searching the USA, gold prospecting since 1984 and I do find some nice gold nuggets using a variety of gold recovery methods. I found my first gold prospecting with a gold pan in a small creek located in Yavapai County, Arizona. In 1985 I was living in Redding, California and had my first introduction to dredging. The reason I created this website to is share knowledge and provide information about gold recovery. We will also discuss the various methods used in the process. metal detecting, dredging, drywashing, crevicing, hard rock, gold panning. etc.
My gold prospecting journey has been both as an individual with lode and placer and a professional small scale placer miner. I’ve been fortunate to have spent a lot of time prospecting all across our great nation including Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico and Colorado. During my travels I’ve met many great people, making some amazing friends along the way.
My prospecting philosophy has always been exploration. Hiking the deserts and montains is not only fun and healthy, it's also a great way to find gold producing areas that were either overlooked or not of economic value to the old time prospectors.
I am also very passionate about coin, relic, meteorite and treasure hunting, photography, hunting and fishing. Right now I’m just enjoying being semi-retired, traveling and being out in the field as much as possible. My main prospecting gear currently consists of a Keene 140 drywasher with a vacuum, Fisher Gold Bug 2 and a Minelab GPZ 7000.I hope the information on this site helps you in your gold prospecting journey.
